about emily co.

It all started with Mrs. Whichard's kindergarten class in the fall of 1986. There were three Emilys, and two of us had last names beginning with C. We were dubbed Emily D., Emily Cr., and Emily Co. This signature stuck with me for the rest of my elementary school career, only to resurface decades later.

I have always been an artist. At an early age I was drawing whatever came to mind... portraits of baby brothers, Colonel Sanders from KFC, you get the gist. When I was 12, I expressed an interest in redecorating my bedroom. I had the most fun, and then learned yes, people actually do this for a living.

To me, interior design is so much more than decorating. It goes beyond pretty fabrics and colors. Design brings beauty and function to life. It is personal. It is a reflection of your truest self.

"A Quiet Living Room"... I cut this picture out of one of mom's magazines, titled it, and labeled each item. I was in kindergarten.
