There is so much going on, but first I have to tell you a little story.
I'm from the south. I grew up Baptist - not Southern Baptist, we still believe in women deacons and Disney World. I love and appreciate church, although I don't go every single week. Where ever and how ever people connect with their version of God, I respect... but I lean on Jesus. I also don't turn down a good palm-reading.
On Thursday, I didn't eat breakfast before getting to work and I was starving. I passed the break room and noticed a big cake. It was store bought, but I don't judge. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a pineapple cake. Several of us were hemming and hawing, should we or shouldn't we eat it? Who brought it? Whatever. I decided that THIS cake was a blessing from the Lord - manna from heaven!!! If I didn't eat what was provided, I would SURELY be turning away FUTURE BLESSINGS. Ok. Stop the story.
All of this is a joke, except also completely serious... resume story.
So I ate the cake and enjoyed it immensely. Within the next hour, I received an email from someone wanting to interview me about the shop. It wasn't Elle Decor or Southern Living... but I 100% attributed this fortune to pineapple cake. Absolutely surely so.
Later that evening, Violet wanted to go for a walk, but I was exhausted. Sitting on the couch, the phone rang. It was dad. Dad never calls, so it must have been serious. Uh oh, good thing I ate the cake for extra protection. Dad and my brother flew in to the airport at the same time. My brother had to go immediately to the hospital to work a shift. His badge was at mom's and dad's house. They needed me to go get the badge and meet him at the hospital. Too bad for Violet, but good for everyone else that we were sitting quietly doing nothing! Cake.
Dad left his computer at the Charlotte airport. Not good. But I knew it would be fine for two reasons... a) I needed shelves from Ikea, so a trip back to Charlotte was a good idea and b) cake! Sure enough, the next morning when mom and dad got to the airport... his computer was there. The cleaning crew turned it in.
The lesson here is, you should always eat the cake. If you look for good things, you will find them. God, like Crisco, works in mysterious ways.
Now for important shop info. This coming week will be the busiest one ever. The landlord's work is almost finished. I will be eating lots of cake to ensure smooth sailing. The schedule goes something like this:
- Monday - electrician finishes his work
- Tuesday - electrical inspection
- Wednesday - door repair, patch holes, signs go up
- Thursday - hang wallpaper, sand holes, vacuum, clean
- Friday - PAINT!
- Saturday - PAINT SOME MORE!
- Sunday - move in and final details
- Monday - final details
And then, when the moment is just right... the shop will OPEN!!! My goal is possibly as early as November 1, but no later than November 4th... FIRST FRIDAY!!! So keep an eye out for major action in the next week. And if you want to help paint, SEND A MESSAGE!!! I'll provide pizza :)
